Research Engineer I, II, or III (Computer Science/Software)

This is a Full-time position in Logan, UT posted May 3, 2021.

The ASPIRE NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) at Utah State University (USU) has an immediate opening for a Research Engineer with computer science or software engineering expertise.

The position will provide engineering support to a wide range of research and development projects with government and industry sponsors and academic partners.

Topic areas include: high power electric vehicle charging systems, electric and hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle, bus and truck development, battery management systems, grid-tied power converters, grid integration of renewable energy and energy storage, micro-grid management, machine learning, cybersecurity for EV charging and micro-grid systems, network development and API coding, and embedded and cloud software development and deployment associated with the above systems.The primary responsibility is to provide computer science engineering support to projects in the areas listed above.

Additional responsibilities include: lead engineering efforts with teams of graduate and undergraduate students, advise and train lab personnel, develop testing procedures, provide professional level documentation on projects, and provide customer support to sponsors on projects and hardware deliverables.Minimum Qualifications:+ To qualify for the Research Engineer I level: Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of related work experience.+ To qualify for the Research Engineer II level: Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of related work experience or a Master’s degree and 3 years of related work experience.+ To qualify for the Research Engineer III level: Master’s degree plus 5 years of related work experience.+ Experience managing projects with many tasks, milestones and deliverables.+ Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.+ Strong oral and written English communications skills and an ability to work within a team environment and oversee engineering design and testing.+ Ability to prioritize and manage multiple job tasks under strict deadlines.Preferred Qualifications:+ Related experience in microgrid optimization and energy management systems.+ Application with electric network and charging infrastructure modeling and optimization.+ Reinforcement learning application and learning environment development experience.+ Experience in server development and knowledge with Open Charge Point Protocol, CAN bus, Modbus, and Python.+ Ability to develop API interfaces to support systems modeling data collection, and create web/application controls for demonstration and display of project information.Along with the online application, please attach:1.
