This is a Part-time position in Richfield, UT posted April 5, 2021.

SummaryThis position is located on the Fishlake National Forest, Supervisor”s Office in Richfield, UT.The position is responsible for planning and implementing the Forest”s Public Affairs and Partnership programs.

This includes media relations, community outreach, conservation education, partnership development, and communicating with elected officials.

Work with the media, including preparation of news releases and preparing subject matter experts for media interviews Educate and engage the public using social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

Updates web and social media content.

Develop interpretive materials and plans to educate the public about natural resource topics Coordinates the volunteer and service program, Develop and maintains relationships with government agencies, colleges/universities, non-governmental organizations, conservation groups, private foundations and others interested in partnering with the Forest Service.

Develop and maintain the partnership program on the Forest Facilitate public engagement through public meetings and tours Respond to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

Coordinates with Forest Service staff and oversees Forest participation in education activities such as sport shows, special events and educational programming.

or J.D if related, such as communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, or creative writing OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level).

The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

Examples of specialized experience include two or more of the following: Answered routine requests for information about the agency and its programs; Presented programs to groups on agency programs and activities; Developed written materials, feature stories, news releases and magazine articles to disseminate agency activities internal and external use; Advised management on community-based partnership opportunities or the probable public reaction to specific proposals, policies and actions; Review print, broadcast, and internet media to analyze public awareness and attitudes regarding agency and activitiesFor the GS-11: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service OR a Ph.D.

or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related such as such as communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, or creative writing OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master”s degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).

Examples of specialized experience include two or more of the following: Responding in oral and written form, to requests for information by determining the nature of the data required and collecting and assembling the material using the appropriate format and style based on needs and organization practices; Independently presented programs to groups on agency programs and activities; Identifying areas to be addressed, characteristics and needs of the target audience, and communication techniques most appropriate; Advised management on community-based partnership opportunities or the probably public reactions to specific proposals, policies and actions; Developing recommended approaches and drafting material for supervisor”s approval; Developing and presenting informational audio-visual material using new technologies and social media.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
